RESERVATION IN EDUCATION FOR BACKWARD CLASSES

There is a raging controversy today in India about reservation for the Backward Classes in the educational system. This about to become law will allow people of Other Backward Classes (OBC) to get into premier educational instiutions without any difficuty.
At present to get into a college one has to sit for an examination. Selections are made on the basis of ranking in the qualify exam. With the new Reservation Policy an OBC candidate will supercede all the candidates with higher ranking and get admission to premiere institutions.
The new Reservation Policy is aimed primarily to bring up the so called Lower Classes who have been kept down by the Higher Classes like Brahmins, Khattria etc. till now. The Objective is quite noble. But in effect the benifits are seen to be going to the rich and powerful amongst the OBC and NOT TO THE POORER people.
If at all any reservation is to be made it should not distinguise between classes/religion/ethnicity but between HAVEs and HAVE NOTS.
This is the only way to bring up the POORER SECTION of the Society
